The Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme was devised by the Kennel Club to promote responsible dog ownership and enhance our relationship with our pets. It also aimsto reward dogs who have good manners in the home and the community.
It covers 4 levels:
Puppy Assessment
Bronze Award
Silver Award
Gold Award
We cover all levels but obviously the Puppy and Bronze Level ones are the most popular.
Kennel Club Puppy Foundation Assessment- Puppy courses
These run for 6 weeks at a time and involve on-going assessment. The courses can be for pups from the age of 10 weeks up to 12 months of age but, depending on age and breed, trainers usually consider that the Puppy class is more appropriate for dogs up to 6 months.
The course aims to provide a means of socialising puppies and to lay down a foundation for further training.
By the end of the 6 week course your pup
should respond to you in a positive manner
should play with you in a fun and constructive manner
should assume set positions when asked
should come when called
You will have an increased awareness of the responsibilities of dog ownership

Companion Dog Training
If you would like to join the Beginner Companion dog class, we would expect you to sign up initially for an introductory 8 week course after which you are welcome to continue on a weekly basis. When a certain standard is reached, you will have the opportunity to take the Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award ( See below) and then to progress to an Intermediate Class.

BRONZE AWARD
Tests for this will be held at intervals throughout the year and you can be considered for testing when both you and your trainer agree that you and your dog are ready to be assessed.
We use KC qualified judges to complete the assessments
You must have competed a Bronze course if you wish to progress to do the Silver and Gold Awards.
Equally, you must have at least completed the Bronze course or its equivalent if you wish to train your dog in agility.
The main aim of the Bronze Award is to produce a dog that will be a joy to own:
he will walk and behave in a controlled manner on lead
he will stay in one position on command
he will allow his owner to clean, groom and inspect him
he will come when called
he will focus on and play with his handler
You, the handler, will benefit from an increased awareness and knowledge of
how your companion learns
your responsibilities as an owner
how to care for him and recognise signs of illnes
